CONSUMER PERCEPTION OF FAMILY FINANCIAL CONDITION AND PLANNED PURCHASES

ABSTRACT

This study examines consumer's perception of current and future family financial conditions, expected future economic condition, plans for purchasing or building a house, purchasing automobiles, furniture or appliances, and plans for increasing spending on clothing. The relationships among these variables were examined and compared by occupation and income categories. Statistically significant relationships were discovered among the perception of current and future family financial conditions, expected economic conditions, and plans for increasing or decreasing expenditures on housing, automobiles, furniture or major appliances, and clothing. Furthermore, significant differences were found in responses by different occupational, and income groups.
